We all hear it at some point. ‘You’ve changed.’ It’s something that has always been treated as something that shouldn’t happen, but as I grow up I realise that maybe, changing isn’t such a bad thing.
I’m just starting my 17th year on earth and, I’m pretty sure I’m a very different person as a I was when I was born (at least I hope I am) and what I’ve learned is that life shapes you. As if when we’re born were a little rolly crying lump of clay, and through the hands that hold you, the punches life throw at you and the things you grow through – you are crafted into who you are today.
Perhaps you’re still a work in progress, life still has more in store to shape you.
There’s no guarantee that it’ll be pleasant or fun but I guess life is what you make it, and I guarantee you can make it out the other end. The thing is, you can never know what is going to happen next but, would you really want to? Life is an adventure, if you knew what was coming how would you learn? How would you grow? Sometimes we need to be thrown out of our comfort zones to become more resilient – if we were never uncomfortable we’d spend our entire life in the womb, and nobody wants that.
Those that criticise change are often those that have not had the experiences others have, or haven’t learned as much as others from experiences. If you think you’re one of these people perhaps you need to become more aware of your surroundings, maybe you need to absorb more of the world around you. You might find that your outlooks begin to shift and grow. Don’t be scared of this! This is a sign of growing up, developing independent thoughts and opinions. This is how you’ll become your true self.
